Faith prevails.

The story behind A. Grey Productions — and the woman it’s named for.

Our Story

Named for Alma Grey.

She’s the woman A. Grey Productions is named for, and the reason it exists.

Alma is the 2nd oldest of 13 children and helped raise her siblings, but she never stopped learning. When she started her own family, she worked two and three jobs to make ends meet, including Ingalls Shipbuilding and nannying, all while traveling every day between Mobile, Alabama and Mississippi. She raised her daughters to strive for the best.

And somewhere in all of that, she found time to make art.

Alma picked up pottery. She had her own kiln and made every dish her family ate from.

She showed me that you can be an artist and work full time. You can raise a family and still chase your passions. She painted the picture for me that faith prevails when you go after what you’re destined for.

That’s why A. Grey exists. Your passion can be pursued on the weekend and after 5. There is no limit.

“Where FAITH prevails and artists are allowed to be more than one thing.”

The Founder

Tameka Bennett

Founder & Creative Producer

Tameka Bennett is the CEO and Founder of A. Grey Productions, and a native of Mobile, Alabama, where she found her love for creativity.

Her mother, Valeria, always knew she was a performer. So when Tameka went back to school for her second bachelor’s degree, her mom knew it was in theatre before she even said it.

Tameka has never been afraid of a challenge or a “no.” Her faith has shown her that if you see beyond your limits and reach for God’s abundance, you will never run out of road.

She created A. Grey as an incubator for herself and fellow artists to play without fear of being judged or having to be perfect. With years of teaching at the college level and in afterschool programs, she believes we never stop learning, and she wants A. Grey to be a learning foundation for all artists.

Our Mission

We are the incubator.

It is our mission that artists mainly identifying as BIPOC and/or women can work outside of their normal disciplines. A. Grey was also founded so that writers have a proof of concept for their work before devoting years to one single project. We want to create a safe space for Artists of Color to bring their work to life in a low-stakes and efficient way.
